All about a beautiful path in Kyoto with cherry trees along canal like a stream from Lake Biwa. You can enjoy Japanese great landscape when walking on the path called "Philosopher's Walk".

Why don't you have Japanese box lunch here?
★★

The best point to look around Nyakuoji Shrine is probably outside and in front of the entrance, before the small bridge. I suggest you that you should take pictures from that point.

How to spend your time here・・・Thanks to their hospitality, they have good size tables and sturdy wooden chairs to rest.

Why don't you sit down and buy some canned juice (they have a vending machine) and have Japanese box lunch?

The price varies from 500 yen to 1500 yen (from 5 dollars to 15 dollars )
Eating Japanese box lunch at Shrine is very Japanese like way of life!

One more to add・・・ They don't charge entrance fee at all. You maybe find that Shrines don't charge entrance fee contrary to Temples.

Sacred Tree

Sacred tree of Nyakuoji Shrine is called "Nagi" in Japanese. It is said that it will mow down your plight if you pay your respects at Nyakuoji Shrine and "Nagi" because "mow down" means "Nagi-taosu" in Japanese. That is, the sacred tree "Nagi" and "Nagi-taosu" meaning "mow down" in English match rhyming words....

Nagi is located just on the right of a small bridge over the stream running to "Sosui", which is a canal along the Philosopher’s walk. The tree has a sign as a sacred tree with a white cloth around thick trunk as a posted picture above shows. I think you won't miss it.
