Yoshida shrine is famous for a festival in Feb ★★

Yoshida shrine is famous for festival in February. I'll explain it later.

Red architectures you see in my photo is called Tori-i. You see it as a gate of the Shrine. They are painted with red because they say color red stands for power of live and hope for the good.

Fushimi-inari Shrine is very very famous for its beauty of a great number of Tori-i called thousand- Torii.
You can see them →here

Map for Fushimi-inari →It is the South of JR Kyoto Station, and is very close to the Station Fushimi, Nara Line of JR.
I think these Torii here at Yoshida Shrine is also something you should see!
I took it last Saturday when walking around Yoshida mountain and shrine.

Mt.Yoshida is not really a mountain you have to climb hard. It is rather a hill. It only takes you 15 minutes to get to the top. Except the season of big festival, there are few people there. You can enjoy walking in silence.

I modified the map from this in My kind of Kyoto, the great HP→Higashiyama area

Eikando-temple in early summer ★★★
eikando_hallway400
This photo was taken in May of 2000.
Now in March, You won’t find Eikando-temple magnificent because it is surrounded by thousands of artistic Japanese maple trees and all those Japanese maple trees are like old dead trees till spring comes.
Eikando is famous for Japanese maple trees and “Mikaeri kan-non“
The Japanese word “Mikaeri” means looking back. Kan-non is one of the objects that Buddhist worship.
The best time to visit Eikando-temple is early summer and fall, because Japanese maple trees get splendid beyond description. I’ve put several pictures in photo album. If you have some interest, please take a look.

Here is an interesting story about “Mikaeri Amida.”
One day, when Eikan, the monk was praying as usual in the morning in the main temple in front of Amida, the symbol of Buddha is suddenly descending from the top and ordered him to follow. At first, Eikan was walking behind him, but in no time, he started to think it should be his dream and made his steps slow. Just about when he stopped, Amida looked back, saying accusingly “You are too slow to follow ,Eikan.” That’s why the face of kan-non isn’t straight.
It is very unusual pose for Amida.

The top of the canal in Nanzenji ★★★
Isn’t it amazing? You just think it is an ordinary bridge if you see it from the ground, but once you go through the canal gate and go up stone stairs, you can see water running so fast and you can hear the strong sound of the stream.

I thought that I could die if I fell into it while taking photos!
